Hi Ken,
I graduated from my 2nd month of physical therapy on Friday, Feb 6th. I feel pretty god about the knee replacement. It is still a little weak but I know what to do and will continue to exercise n my own. I have a free trial month at the YMCA and I intend to put it to good use.
I have noticed that if I miss a day of exercise the muscles tend to be sore now. The Physical Therapist says I will have to exercise everyday for the rest of my life now. The doctor removed the ligaments around my knee and the muscles are what keeps it working now. I have to keep them strong.
All in all, I feel pretty good about the knee and am very happy to be up and around with out a cane and with out the pain. I'm not dancing yet but just give me another month and I will be.
Just wanted to keep you updated as to my progress. How are you doing?

Hi Dana,
I have to say I haven't had any cramps at night but do wake up regularly every time I change position which is really annoying. I wish I had a solution for your cramps as I'm sure they're very frustrating, but I don't - sorry.
I do have the tight feeling around my thigh though. Like an enormous elastic band round it, which if it actually was one I'd ask someone to cut it off as it's so uncomfortable. The physiotherapist said it had something to do with the swelling, but as I'm 10 days ahead of you I can say that it the tight feeling is actually subsiding at last so hang in there!

I had knee replacement on October 12, 2009. Like you I really didn't know what to expect. It seems we have been recovering at about the same rate.
I was wondering if you had any trouble with leg cramps at night and what you solution was.
I am 4 weeks post surgery now and I wake up every hour or so at night and have to massage and stretch my legs. So I'm getting about 30 minutes of sleep for every hour.
I also have the swelling at the thigh just above the knee. It is a hard tightness that almost never goes away.
I start out patient therapy on Tuesday and am hoping the new exercises will help.

[...] I can now lift my leg unassisted. It’s just been Day Ten. This came after a massage of my Total Knee Replacement (ta-da-dummm) and my quadriceps. My quad was Tasered for ten seconds every minute for ten minutes. I think this was the key: electro-shock therapy on my leg. I was sitting in the recliner last night and boinnnnggggg up it came (my leg.) Now I need to find a way to get it to return to normal position. [...]
